Post Sunset Adjusted not working Reply with quote
Hey guys,

Ok, I finally had a chance to see now if the Insteon PLC sunrise/set tables work. I did everything in Humanzee's Sunrise/Sunset stickey

Now, I set my two lights to turn on when triggered by VARIABLE=SUNSET ADJUSTED. It's not working, neither of my lights are on. I think it may have something to do with a delay setting or something that I don't understand. Here's my settings in vCrib...

My variables are showing that Sunset Adjusted = 1958 (7:58 pm):

My Sunset - Adjusted condition seems to be set OK:

Here's the Action page. I have it set to turn on the kitchen light when Sunrise - Adjusted happens (I think that's how it should work). I have it send the Light ON command twice because I'm using X10. I had this set up before with a specific time set to trigger and it worked. Click the image below to see a larger one:

What is the number that I have circled in the above screenshot? Is that a delay or something? It's been 30 minutes after my Sunset - Adjusted time and my lights still haven't turned on...

Also, what is the number circled below? This is on the Variables tab (click to enlarge):

I don't see anything in my event logs, so it's not firing off. Is there something I'm doing wrong? From what I figure, my light should turn on exactly at 7:58 pm, because that is what the variable SUNSET ADJUSTED is set to.

For now I'm just going to trigger my lights to turn on manually, but I have them set to turn off at Sunrise - Adjusted. We'll see if that works in the morning if the lights are still on or off.

Hmm things look correct,

The first thing you circled is the action limit, This is used to limit how frequently an action can occur. Yours is set to 10 seconds there. Meaning that it can fire once every 10 seconds while the triggering condition is true. So in your case it chould fire 5 or 6 times during the minute = 19:58. However I think the time based triggers are checked only every 30 seconds.

Open your events.exe and look to see if it is testing the condition routinely on the right side. It should say something like "HH:MM:SS Trigger = Sunset-Adjusted FAILED" because it is no longer 19:58. Try forcing the time to something coming up in the next minute or two and review the events.exe application again. I think when the trigger condition is true it will say PASSED in the events.exe log. You could also try setting up a static time condition, I.e. set a condition to time 20:00 and see if it will trigger an action.

The time circled in the settings tab is the number of seconds between checks to see if a system process has failed. If you close your insteon application sometime up to 120 seconds later a system event will be recorded in the log that says. Process Insteon had Stopped. Has nothing to do with limiting commands.

I'll check out the Events.exe thing you mentioned when I get home in the morning.

I had previously set up a static time and that worked for triggering the lights on and off. I had it set for like 7 pm, and it was turning the lights on an hour before sunset because it's summer now, lol.

I'll see what I can do with the events.exe stuff and post up in the morning. Thanks for the help

also heed the comment about spanning midnight. That can screw with time based conditions/triggers.

Oh, I forgot about that. But in this case, I'm just trying to trigger with the single variable (SUNRISE or SUNSET)

Hey guys,

I didn't have much time to trouble shoot this yesterday. I didn't even know there was a right side to the Events.exe app. I maximized it, and there it was. In response to what you told me to check, No, I do not see anything about it testing the sunset or sunrise condition. I see it testing the A Time = 1:00 AM though.

I'm not sure why it's not working. I just set my lights back to turn off at the static time I had set up before I tried playing with this stuff. I'll try playing with it more this weekend. I just don't understand why it won't work. I can see a time set for all the variables on the Settings tab.....

Hey guys,

On your triggering condition here, in that empty bottom Parameter box there, select TIME per step 10 in the sticky. I think that might be it.

It's funny, you stare at this stuff so long and it all looks correct, I don't know how many times I have assigned the wrong condition to an action and can't figure out why it will not work. Then you come back the next day and its blatantly obvious what you did wrong. Of course it cant be sunrise AND sunset at the same time.

I am reading these, but not running tests since I am remote, but if there is a problem on any variable comparisons, I can fix them in minutes, so just let me know if any of those conditions are not doing what you want.

I know I am adding device values so you can also substiute their values like variables. [Object=Kitchen Lights.Dim_Level] > 60 for example.

With that and variables, that should cover most of the values needed for a complete condition system...

Thank you! I can't believe I missed the TIME setting. I'll try that out in the morning or later in the day after I get some sleep!

If you missed it that easy it is a flaw in the interface, so I will see if some validation on the field/buttons will help.

Thanks guys! It worked! The first night it didn't work because I had some odd times in my sunset for some reason. Later that night (1 am) my update command or whatever ran and filled in correct times. It's worked the past two nights perfectly. And I can now see it testing in the Events.exe.

Vaughn,
It was my fault that I missed it. I did Humanzee's tutorial to the T for his example. It showed how to create a time frame for darkness. I then got excited and tried to do the sunrise and sunset quick, and didn't pay attention to filling in that field. I went back and saw that the TIME field was populated for the first example in the tutorial, but not the other two I did after. I was just rushing.

Thanks for finding that error, I was getting discouraged!
